Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Tomw Waits, Andrew Garfield, Lily Cole, Verne Troyer
Dr. Parnassus has the extraordinary gift of inspiring the imaginations of others. Helped by his traveling theatre troupe, including his sarcastic and cynical sidekick Percy (Verne Troyer) and versatile young player Anton (Andrew Garfield), Parnassus offers audience members the chance to transcend mundane reality by passing through a magical mirror into a fantastic universe of limitless imagination. However, Parnassus' magic comes at a price. For centuries he's been gambling with the devil, Mr. Nick (Tom Waits) who is coming to collect Parnassus' precious daughter, Valentina (Lily Cole) as his prize on her upcoming 16th birthday. Unbeknownst to Valentina is the little wager that her father’s made on her life, and she’s quickly falling for Tony (Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, and Jud Law), a charming outsider with a hidden agenda. In order to save his daughter and redeem himself, Parnassus makes one final bet with Mr. Nick, which sends Tony and Valentina and the entire theatre troupe on a ride of twists and turns, in and out of London and the Imaginarium's wondrous landscape. REVIEW The reason why I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and go and see this movie was because “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus†is said to be Heath Ledger’s final performance before his untimely death. His presence is surely missed and while he did play an interesting character it was enough to make me like this movie at all. The opening of this movie led me to believe that I was going to enjoy it tremendously because of the amazing special effects hidden within the Imaginarium. However, as I got deeper and deeper into the movie I simply became annoyed with the entire thing. “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus†was a horrible and I absolutely hated it!! Don’t waste your time, curiosity, a rental, or a dollar bin purchase on this movie because it’s totally not worth it. ~Dana Da Designated Hata® aka Nobody’s Fan™.
