Plot:

“The Princess and the Frog” is a modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. However, this version comes with a twist and tells the hidden tale of how Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos) was transformed by a conniving voodoo magician. It also tells the story of Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) a hardworking waitress who wishes on a star to make her dreams come true. Although she’s too old to believe in fairy tales, Tiana takes a leap of faith when a talking frog appears and convinces her to kiss on him. Unfortunately, she too falls pray to the evil spell and is turned into a frog. With the help of a trumpet-playing alligator, a Cajun firefly, and an old blind lady who lives in a boat in a tree, Naveen and Tiana must race to break the spell and fulfill their dreams.

Disney is best known for testing the imagination, breaking new ground, and creating timeless classics that the entire family can enjoy. These characteristics certainly remain true with their latest animated release, “The Princess and the Frog”. I never thought in a million year’s that I would ever see this type of progression. Sure we’ve had plenty of white girl princesses and even a little diversity with Pocahontas, Aladdin, and Mulan. I guess it was only a matter of time before Disney decided to throw a black girl into the mix right? Well, “The Princess and the Frog” was an absolute delight and an instant classic. The storyline, musical numbers, character development, and animation where simply fantastic. I strongly recommend seeing this movie on the big screen. It’s totally worth the full price of admission and adding to your Disney DVD collection.  ~Dana Da Designated Hata® aka Nobody’s Fan™
